In 2008, there were 1.03 deaths per 100 million vehicle miles traveled in the United States. Based on these odds, a lottery player living a single mile from a store selling lottery tickets is four times more likely to die in a car accident driving to the store than to win the Powerball jackpot. Winning doesn’t seem too likely now, does it? Keep those odds in mind the next time you drive to the store to buy lottery tickets!
* Lotto's match-5 and match-4 prizes are pari-mutuel. A pari-mutuel prize is determined by dividing the prize pool equally among the winners, and may vary for each drawing. Lotto is structured to average approximately $2,000 and $50 for the match 5 and match 4 prize levels respectively. The jackpot prize is also a pari-mutuel prize and will be divided equally among all jackpot-winning tickets. If the jackpot is not won, the prize is carried over and added to the jackpot prize pool of the next drawing.

Whenever you come across people who claim to have a formula for winning the lottery it almost always comes to so-called "systems" of numbers. An example might be picking numbers in a specific shape that can be seen visually on the ticket itself. These vary from straight lines to complex patterns (from our own research we've seen that our own players generally prefer straight lines). Picking numbers in this way doesn't really do anything, however, since the results of the draw will always be random whether you opt to play a straight line or a pretty butterfly.
Choose numbers that are significant to you. If you believe in lucky numbers, they're probably digits that center around important dates or events in your life. Mix the numbers of significant numbers together. For instance, you might use your grandfather’s birthday month and year,10/1929 and your mother’s birth month and day, 3/21. Together you might come up with something like 10-19-3-21-29. Other examples of significant numbers might include::

One more method of choosing lottery number is randomizing the selection. You do not have to think much and just choose any number of your choice. And anyhow lottery is a game of choosing random numbers. If you are allowed to choose any number of lottery numbers then see that you do not choose too many numbers. Because chance of winning is inversely proportional to the number of numbers you choose. Now, you may also use special numbers for picking the numbers. These special numbers can be anything, like your age, your daughter's/son's age, your mobile number, your house number, your husband's/wife's age, etc.
With all this talk about the odds against winning and how much money is wasted on lottery tickets, one may forget that people do win the jackpot once in a great while. Every now and then, we read about someone who won a huge jackpot of a few hundred million dollars and how he or she is planning on retiring, buying a new car, or giving a percentage to a favorite charity.
Use "lotto pick" computer generated numbers. Allow the lottery to choose randomly for you. You can request random picks when you purchase your lottery ticket. When the attendant asked you for the numbers, tell him or her that you want the system to choose the numbers for you. With the click of a few buttons, you’ll have your lottery numbers. If you're buying several tickets at one time, this is probably the way to go.
